Michael Reese Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) governs the Michael Reese Health Trust (“Michael Reese”) website and any websites operated by Michael Reese that link to this Policy (collectively referred to as “Sites”).
We may collect certain information from you when you visit and use the Sites or otherwise interact with us. In this Privacy Policy, we describe the types of information we collect, how we use that information, how we protect that information and when we share that information with third parties.
We may modify this Policy at any time. All changes will be effective immediately upon posting to the Sites. Material changes will be conspicuously posted on the Sites or otherwise communicated to you.
If you use the Sites, you must comply with our Term of Use (“Terms”) found /terms-of-use.
Information we collect when you visit and use the Sites
Information you voluntarily provide to us
We will collect your name, email address, mailing address, phone number and whether you were born at Michael Reese Hospital (“Personal Information”) if you elect to provide such Personal Information when you visit the Sites. You are not required to share any Personal Information when you visit the Sites. However, certain features of the Sites may be unavailable to you if you choose not to share Personal Information.
Payment information
If you choose to make a donation through our Sites, we will collect certain Personal Information. When you make the donation, you will be required to provide certain payment information, such as credit or debit card information. Any such payment information will be provided directly to a third party payment processor. We do not access, handle, or store your credit or debit card data. However, we will collect related Personal Information when you make a donation, including the date and amount of the donation, and whether the donation is made in honor or in memory of another person. We also retain certain information in order to provide information regarding your donations for stewardship and tax purposes.
Marketing communications
If you provide your email address to us, we may provide you with certain information in the nature of marketing materials regarding Michael Reese including newsletters, educational materials and updates. We may also advise you of certain events we are sponsoring. We may use third-party providers to deliver those communications to you. You may opt-out of those emails by using the unsubscribe link in the email or contacting us at hello@wearemichaelreese.org with “Unsubscribe” in the subject line. To opt out of other communications (e.g., postal marketing and telemarketing), please contact us as set forth below. Opting out of marketing communications does not opt you out of communications about business transactions with us.
Applying to Work with Us
You may submit job application materials to work with us. If you send us your job application materials directly, we will only use and share those job application materials to evaluate your qualifications to work with us and our affiliates.
Feedback
When you provide comments or feedback about our Sites, the content on the Sites, or our services (“Feedback”), we will not treat that Feedback as confidential and we may use that Feedback for any purpose in our sole discretion so long as it does not personally identify you. Feedback will be used without attribution or compensation to you.
Data we collect automatically when you visit the Sites
Cookies & other tracking technologies
We may use cookies, web beacons, pixel tags and other tracking technologies (collectively “Cookies”) on our Sites.
What are cookies and web beacons / pixel tags?
A cookie is a small text file that our Sites saves onto your computer or device when you use the Sites. Web beacons / pixel tags are small graphics on a webpage that monitor your activity when viewing a webpage.
The cookie provides us certain information about your activities when you visit the Sites. We place cookies when you visit the Sites to help the Sites to remember your actions and preferences and to recognize you or your browser, along with some information you provided.

How long do cookies last?

Each time you visit a Site that has implemented a persistent Cookie, the persistent Cookie is renewed and that Cookie will remain active until its predetermined expiration date. The purpose of these Cookies is to provide you with a more personal experience and to avoid you having to re-enter your preferences every time you use the Site.
We are not responsible for third-party cookies
Cookies may either be “first-party” or “third-party” Cookies. A first-party Cookie allows your web browser to talk to the actual Sites that you are visiting (i.e. the Sites). A third-party Cookie allows your web browser to talk to a third-party website, such as the source of an ad that appears on the website you are visiting or a third-party analytics provider. We do not have control over third-party Cookies. Third-party Cookies are not governed by this Policy.
How do you manage cookies or opt-out?
Most browsers automatically accept cookies. You can disable this function by changing your browser settings, but disabling cookies may impact your use and enjoyment of the Sites. Not all features or functions of the Sites may work properly if you disable Cookies. You cannot disable all Cookies, such as Cookies that are essential to the functioning of the Sites.
We currently do not honor “do not track” requests
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to collect and process information about your use of the Sites. Google sets cookies and then your web browser will automatically send data to Google. Google uses this data to provide us with reports that we use to improve the Sites’ structure and content.
We may implement additional add-on services to Google Analytics, such as Demographics and Interest Reporting. Demographics and Interest Reporting use Cookies to collect data about our Sites traffic by tracking users across websites and across time to provide us with analytics on our visitors to the Sites.

Usage Data
Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Sites. Usage Data may include information such as your Device’s Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Sites that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.
When you access the Sites by or through a mobile device, We may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, your mobile device unique ID, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser you use, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.
We may also collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Sites or when you access the Sites by or through a mobile device.
Videos; embedded content
The Sites contains videos and embedded content provided by Michael Reese Health Trust and third parties, including visible content and/or feeds scripts embedded in the Sites’ code. Michael Reese Health Trust and such third parties may collect data about how you interact with such content (e.g., YouTube may collect usage data on videos embedded on the Sites as described in YouTube’s Privacy Policy). By watching the videos and interacting with such content, you agree to the collection and use of such data.
Data from other sources
We obtain data about individuals from various third-party companies and public sources and we may combine that data with other Personal Information. This enhances our existing data about our users (e.g., adding address data), improves our ability to contact you, and enhances our marketing capabilities.
Social media
We use social media, which may include Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube (“Social Media”). Anything you post on Social Media is public information and will not be treated confidentially. We may post (or re-post) on the Sites and our Social Media pages any comments or content that you post on our Social Media pages. You agree to hold Michael Reese and its affiliates harmless and without liability for the results of any and all content you post on Michael Reese Social Media.
Your use of Social Media is governed by the privacy policies and terms of the third parties that own and operate those websites and not by this Policy. We encourage you to review those policies and terms.
How we use personal information and analytical data
We use Personal Information and Analytical Data we collect from you when you visit our Sites for the following purposes:
As stated or agreed to at the point of collection
We may use Personal Information for the purposes stated or agreed-to (or as is obvious) at the point of collection. For example, we use Personal Information to respond to your questions, comments, or concerns. We may also use Personal Information as requested or consented to by you.
Administration
We use Personal Information for administrative purposes, such as processing donations, sending donation receipts, sending correspondence, acknowledging donations to Michael Reese, to fulfill our mission, and to understand the Sites’ demographics and user preferences. We may also use Personal Information to notify you of changes to our Terms or this Privacy Policy and for other similar administrative communications.
Communications with donors and grantees
We use Personal Information to thank our donors and otherwise keep in touch with our donors and potential donors, and to communicate with grantees and potential grantees.
Sites’ management
We use Personal Information for the Sites’ management, such as troubleshooting problems, improving the content and functionality of the Sites, statistical and other analyses of the Sites, and to customize the Sites.
Events and event registration
We will collect Personal Information if you register for an event we sponsor. We use this information to coordinate the event and to help with special activities for donors, grantees and other constituents.
Providing updates
We may use Personal Information to notify you of new events, to provide you with information about new programs we are offering, and to advise you about developments at Michael Reese.
Giving
We may use your Personal Information to provide you with information and opportunities to make donations to Michael Reese to support our mission.
To protect our rights
We may use Personal Information to protect our legal rights or interests, or those of third parties, including to bring a legal action against you or anyone who may be causing harm to us, our Sites, or to other users of the Sites. We may also use Personal Information to address any claims of intellectual property infringement, to seek business, financial or legal advice, and to respond to other legal requests.
Disclosure of personal information
We do not sell your Personal Information. We may share your Personal Information with the following parties, in compliance with applicable laws:
Employees
We may share Personal Information with our employees who have a need to know the information for our business purposes.
Third-party service providers
We may share your Personal Information with our third-party service providers, and representatives that provide services for us, with whom we have contracted with to protect such Personal Information. For example, we may share Personal Information with service providers to help us host and manage the Sites; improve the content and functionality of the Sites; perform data analysis and statistical analysis; troubleshoot problems with the Sites; assist with events; provide payment processing services for donations; provide professional services, for public relations purposes, to provide learning management systems; provide email services; provide data processing; and support or provide the security of the Sites.
Mission collaborators
We may share your Personal Information when we collaborate with other charitable organizations, foundations and program partners to further the mission of Michael Reese.
Volunteers
We may share limited personal information, such as contact information, with volunteers who are assisting and who require the information as part of their duties.
Memorial and honorary giving
If you choose to make a donation on behalf of an individual, and you request that we provide notification to the honoree or their family, we will send a letter to the honoree or family acknowledging your gift. We keep the amount of money you donate as confidential, but the individual (or their immediate family in the case of a memorial donation) may be provided with the name and address of those individuals who have donated in honor of their loved one, whether in the letter itself or at the request of the honoree or family.
Government officials/law enforcement
We will cooperate with law enforcement and other governmental agencies, and may disclose Personal Information: (i) if we believe in good faith we are legally required to disclose that Personal Information, (ii) if we are advised to disclose Personal Information by our legal counsel, or (iii) when necessary to identify, contact or bring a legal action against someone who may cause or be causing harm to, or interfering with the legal rights of, Michael Reese or any other party.
Professional advisors
We may share Personal Information with our professional advisors, such as our attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, public relations advisors and business advisors, in their capacity as advisors to Michael Reese.
Business transactions; change in ownership
We may share Personal Information with third parties in connection with a proposed or actual change of control, or in the event in whole or in part, or in the event of a bankruptcy, receivership or a similar transaction. We will ask that those successor organizations follow the protections of this Privacy Policy but we cannot guarantee they will agree with that request.
Other
We may share Personal Information with third parties when explicitly requested by or consented to by you, or for the purposes for which you disclosed the Personal Information to us as indicated at the time and point of the disclosure (or as was obvious at the time and point of disclosure).
Use and disclosure of non-personal information
We may collect or create information or data that does not personally identify an individual and is not readily available for that purpose (“Non-Personal Information”). Michael Reese may collect, use, share, transfer and otherwise process Non-Personal Information for any business purposes in its sole discretion, in compliance with applicable laws. Michael Reese is the sole and exclusive owner of any Non-Personal Information, including if it de-identifies any Personal Information so that it becomes Non-Personal Information.
Data we do not intend to collect
Sensitive information
“Sensitive information” is any data that reveals your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, or that involves genetic or biometric data or data concerning health or sexual orientation. We do not intend to collect any Sensitive Data from you. Please do not provide Sensitive Data to us.
Children
The Sites are not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect, use, or share Personal Information from children under 13. If a parent or legal guardian learns that their child provided us with Personal Information without his or her consent, please contact us and we will make commercially reasonable attempts to delete such Personal Information.
Data security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to help secure Personal Information against loss, misuse, and alteration appropriate to the type of Personal Information processed. If a breach of your Personal Information occurs, we will notify you of the breach if required under applicable law.
You understand that no data transmission over the internet or device can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. While we strive to protect Personal Information, we do not guarantee the security of Personal Information and you provide Personal Information at your own risk.
Access from outside the United States
If you access the Sites from outside the United States, please be aware that Personal Information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States. Certain governmental authorities may not consider the level of protection of Personal Information in the United States to be equivalent to that required by the other jurisdictions.
Retention of Personal Information
We will keep Personal Information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is permitted or required by law.
Third-party websites
The Sites may link to, or be linked to, websites not controlled by us. We are not responsible for third-parties’ privacy policies or practices. This Policy does not apply to any third-party websites or to any data that you provide to third parties. You should read the privacy policy for each website that you visit.
